At Home Boredom Busters for Every Kid

Phew, 2021 has been a year! If you, like us, have been caught totally off guard by October, you likely haven’t had time to think about what to make for dinner let alone how to keep the kids entertained. To help lighten the load a little, we’ve come up with some activities for you and your wee ones to do inside, outside, jumping around, or sitting still – whatever your energy level and your little one’s style, we’ve got you covered. Read on for some creative ways to have fun this break!

Crafty Characters

One of the ways we’ve celebrated our 30th Birthday milestone this year is with an Instagram and Facebook filter that brings to life some of our cute Bobux characters in a lighthearted and loving interaction that parents, caregivers and guardians can share with their children – check it out here! Make sure to keep holding down that record button and see what happens when you smile, frown, or make a surprised face.

Once you’ve had a few laughs and been assigned your Bobux characters, get crafty with your little one and create a costume that represents this character, or head to the kitchen and bake an edible portrait! We love this easy and adaptable recipe from Annabel Langbein.

Out & About

For those after some fresh air and exploration, we’ve put together a little nature-inspired scavenger hunt for you and your little ones to download here. Happy hunting!

Get Moving

Not only does movement get those coveted endorphins flowing, but it tuckers out the littlies for bedtime – yes please! There are a heap of free resources out there on Youtube these days, but we love Cosmic Kids Yoga for fun themes, colourful animations and low impact movement – bonus points for mindfulness exercises that are accessible to kids! For a step up in the intensity scale, PE with Joe Wicks is a great option for shorter bursts of activity under 10 minutes.

Virtual Visits

Many museums and zoos are offering virtual tours to bring the outings in if the weather isn’t playing ball, or you can’t get out with your little ones! Why not head to the Smithsonian in Washington, the Natural History Museum in London, or any of the hundreds of museums around the world Google Arts & Culture has available. Or for a spot of wildlife watching, Auckland Zoo isn’t offering tours per se but has adorable webcams set up in some of their exhibits so you can ooh and ahh from home.

Talk it out

We’re loving this printable Lockdown Diary created by Stephen McCarthy, packed with activities and daily prompts to encourage kids to process their experiences and keep their brains engaged and stimulated.

National Geographic Kids

Need we say more? National Geographic has an incredible wealth of facts, activities, games and resources for kids with all types of interests available for free on their Kids specific website – this one is more suited to kids around Kid+ stage, but has plenty of beautiful imagery for younger kids who love to look at wildlife and nature!

Colour-me-happy

An oldie but a goodie, colouring is the gift that never stops giving! Pens, pencils, glitter, crayons – whatever you’ve got, arm your little ones with art supplies and task them with adding their own flair to our Bobux character colouring sheets below. Share and tag us on Instagram @bobuxshoes, we’d love to see your take on the Bobux crew!
